report + photos
Comenius Boys cruised to a comfortable 23-run victory over the visiting Tasmanian Devils on 30th August, despite 23 not out from guest player Andy Grieve (the Comenius coach!). Kristof Noll-Batek reached 20 runs to retire, while Barnabas Schneider was run out off the last ball of the innings for 21 as CB racked up 67-3 from their 10 overs. In reply only David stayed at the crease long enough to get some runs alongside Andy, with five batsmen clean bowled. Three local boys turned up and played their first-ever cricket match, a very positive sign card
Yet another late burst from Comenius Anita Girls gave them an 8-wicket win over the Devils. This time it was Fanni Cziraky and Adrienn Zics running every ball to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Caludia Balogh retired on 20, then Brigi Hotea joined her on the sidelines after injuring her ankle on 13. The Devils bowled well, but the running of the girls was highly effective (and sometimes comic!). Earlier, coach Andy Grieve was again the only player to reach double figures, hitting 20 off the last over to set the girls a target of 60, which they managed with 3 balls to spare card
IBM secured their first points of the season with an excellent all-round performance to outclass Tasmanian Devils on 12th September. Aided by some Baggy Blues players, they piled on 121 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, including 27 not out from Nick Palmer, 17 from Gio Chikhladze and 13 from captain Martin East. Only Zoli Mago (guesting from Comenius) batted well, making 25 not out as the Devils fell 48 runs short on 73 all out, with Gio and Matyas Balogh both taking 3 wickets card
A massive winning total gave the title to the Comenius Boys, as they thrashed their nearest rivals Comenius Anita Girls by 160 runs in the last match of the Development Division of the HCL. Kristof Noll-Batek hit 74 not out and Attila Vakan was unbeaten on 45 after 20 overs in which the boys racked up 212-7 (although they had been in trouble halfway through their innings. The girls had no fight left in them and could only reach 52 all out in reply
