Highlights of 2010 |
Falcons win league by walkover: After a fine performance with the ball (including 4 wickets for Khaibar Deldar and 3 for Zahir), Budapest Falcons won the 2010 HCL final by means of a walkover. Royal Tigers managed 113 all out, of which captain Tushar Gandhi hit 42. |
Five countries play in the II Anita-Hungaria Women's Cricket Festival: Cricketers from Austria, Belgium, Germany and Serbia came to Budapest to take part in the II Anita-Hungaria Women's Cricket Festival over the three days of 27th to 29th August. Hungary win Euro Twenty20 tournament in Macedonia with one ball to spare! In a thrilling finish to the tournament Hungary beat Russia by 3 wickets with one ball to spare. The Russian total of 165-6 seemed very competitive, but Sufiyan Mohammed's innings of 82 helped Hungary to their first-ever senior tournament triumph. Eddie Allnutt was the Hungary hero as they won their first match in Group A of the 8-nation tournament against Croatia by 5 wickets, but the team ran out of overs as they lost to Romania, before getting back on track in their last group match. A comprehensive victory over hosts Macedonia put Hungary into the semi-finals of the Euro Twenty20 tournament, where they got the better of Bulgaria in a low-scoring match before they conquered Russia to lift the trophy. teams, squad and results... |

Our side was not exactly what could fairly be described as "Hungary A". It was a last-minute assembly of players from the Hungarian league, from the whole range of skill levels.
Hungary A batted first and scored 120 from their 25 overs, thanks mainly to Mark Ahuja's 27 and extras.
Then Serbia accumulated well enough, despite having several novice cricketers in the team, so that they needed 8 off Nick Palmer's last over to win. They fell 2 runs short. They were indebted to their number 4 bat (guest Andrew Leckonby) who scored 35. Stan (Tigers) was Hungary's best bowler (5-1-18-2).

Blues set new records: Congratulations to Onka Ozkul for setting a new HCA Bowling Record with 6 wickets for 6 runs off 4.5 overs on Sunday 27th June! His performance included a hatrick of bowleds against arguably the Kangas' best 3 batsmen. Thanks to Onka his team, Baggy Blues Artosz set a new ’lowest HCA score’, bowling the Danubian Kangaroos out for 30 to beat the previous record, also held by the Baggies, of bowling out Comenius for 32 in August 2008 (on that day Mark Bownas got a hatrick). In their match on Thursday 24th June Baggy Blues Desperados racked up a massive 249-8 off 20 overs (another new record) to defeat Dunabogdany in the Hungarian Cup and clinch a semi-final spot. |
Raiders travel to Croatia: Next time you see Tim Dixon, just ask him what it’s like to field in a puddle the size of a squash court. Ask any of us actually. Originally, this two-match tour was booked up as a Baggy Blues trip but in the end, with only six Baggies available, the XI who traveled hailed from 5 of the HCA clubs. continued...

Best can't tame Tigers: The second annual "Champions vs Best of the Rest" HCL season opener took place on Sunday 2nd May at RAFC. Following last year's narrow defeat, the Royal Tigers arrived clearly determined to overturn that result against this year's best available players from each of the other clubs in the league. The Tigers were comprehensively successful, running out 30-run winners, 245 all out to 215 all out. The match also provided another small piece of history in the growing records of Hungarian cricket, being the first ever 'internal' 40-over match in Hungary. continued... |
Comenius come 3rd in Slovenia: For the fourth year on the trot Comenius went down to play in the Mezica tournament. Two wins and two defeats meant they came third out of the five teams. Both victories were hard fought for, with Andy Grieve taking 4-4 to skittle out Serbia and then hitting 20 not out to outfox Partibrejkers scorecards + stats |
