Dunabogdany
CC won by 6 wickets
On a very wet but just playable pitch, DCC won the toss and put the debut Kangaroos into bat in this 13-a-side friendly match. The wicket was dry but many wet patches in the outfield remained from three days of heavy rain.
The first ball from DCC paceman Rohan saw the wicket of opener D. Torok fall, giving a friendly catch to mid-off Zador. Both DCC opening bowlers Rohan and new bowler Hudetz bowled very tightly and with the added combination of some very sharp DCC fielding, the Kangaroos soon found themselves 4 down for only 7 runs. The arrival of the Kangaroos skipper at the crease, Gabor Torok, quenched the DCC fire. Torok played a superb and intelligent innings, taking the strike whenever he could and at the same time pushing the score on towards a very respectable Kangaroos debut total. Torok was finally dismissed lbw for 54, after which only token resistance was offered and the Kangaroos closed their innings on 85.
DCC's reply was slow but effective, with Brown and Smyth seeing off the Torok brothers (Gabor and Tamas), foiling the Kangaroos' need for an early breakthrough. Smyth was dismissed for 10 and Brown was joined at the wicket by debut DCC player Mike Gray. Gray played a strong innings, placing his shots and on occasion unleashing to the boundary. Kangaroos had a tiny glint of hope when Brown, Latham and Anthony all fell in quick succession, but the arrival of Zador put any chance of a Kangaroos victory totally out of reach. Gray and Zador completed the victory for DCC, finishing both not out 33 and 21 respectably.
It was a fine match played in warm sunshine, the actions of both teams were impeccable and the game was played in the true spirit of cricket. The Kangaroos showed great promise in their debut match and DCC look forward to inviting them back in the very near future.
Man of the match: Gabor Torok for his great 54 and a superb captain's performance.
