Match abandoned due to rain
On a very humid afternoon DCC welcomed back BBs to Dunabogdany. Leckonby won the toss and put DCC into bat. In just the second over, due to some very sharp BBs fielding, Zador was run out for 0, after Brown attempted a quick single. Naughton and Kaushik bowled tightly for the Baggys and kept Brown and Devany under pressure, keeping the run-rate to a minimum. DCC finally got a foot hold on a very lively pitch and pushed the score along. Following their recent partnership of fifty and this one being on 30, Brown (20) succumbed to an lbw. Devany remained for a further two overs before also falling lbw for 15. Lebor (DCC's new man) joined Watson at the crease. Watson looked comfortable but soon fell clean bowled by Mills for 2. Lebor was then joined by Anthony and the two of them pushed things along nicely, Lebor playing some very nice off drives and Anthony adding with his trademark pull shot. After a partnership of 32, Anthony fell attempting a big hit down to third man, being caught at gully for 15. Kruger joined Lebor and the run rate increased again. Lebor finally fell for a very respectable 29. Kruger remained and carried his bat for 18. DCC closed their innings on 142.
In reply the Baggys looked comfortable, Patterson and Naughton looking very stylish at the crease. They both hit some fine shots to the boundary, but also played with great control. After a partnership of 35, Naughton was tempted to hit a big on-drive for six, Lebor took a fine catch just inside the boundary and DCC had their breakthrough. Glover joined Patterson and continued the BBs' control of the match. With the score on 73 for 1, Patterson was tempted to hit a big shot to long mid-off, where Benczes took a great running catch. Patterson hit a very impressive 32. Kaushik joined Glover and they played well together and kept the run-rate well within the target for victory. Glover fell for 14 and new batsman Morris (4) soon followed to give DCC the chance they had been waiting for to apply the pressure. Mills joined Kaushik and steadied things for the Baggys. Just as the game was approaching an exciting conclusion, the rains came. Both teams left the field not to return and the game was abandoned.
Both sides enjoyed the match, it being both competitive and hard fought. When the rains came, it can be said that the Baggys might just have had the edge, but if DCC could have taken another wicket, then who knows!
