Genpact XI won by 6 wickets

Comenius approached this game on a high, after easily disposing of the touring solicitors from Cambridge the week before and having received some coaching before the match from Simon Hammond, a youth coach at Hampshire CCC. But would the high hopes lead to high fives and two points against last season's runners-up Genpact?

It wasn't long before the reality set in. New acquisiton Dinesh Reddy and last year's injured hero David Garbutt set hearts fluttering with their fast bowling and quickly snapped up three wickets. Attila came and went, setting the stage for Arindam and David to put on a 50 partnership, before Zoli provided his usual cameo with a massive six. The tail was almost non-existent - one extra was added for the loss of the last five wickets.

Genpact's batting was as solid as a rock. Despite some accurate bowling, the chances just did not come and impressive knocks from Shitanshu and Nitin saw Genpact home with plenty to spare. The ball flew over the fence at regular intervals and the only point of note in the innings was the farcical run-out of opener Ross Boyd - Andy and Fanni collided in trying to catch the ball, allowing the ever eager David to steal in and knock down the stumps!

On this display, Genpact look able to at least repeat last year's performance. Whether they can go one better will depend on the availability of their squad members, but they certainly have the drive, talent and determination to make it happen.

Man of the match: David Garbutt
