Danubian Kangaroos won by 5 wickets
A terrible display from the 10-man home team and an inspired all-round performance by Tamas Torok gave the all-Hungarian Kangaroos their second victory of the HCL season. Ably assisted by his brother Gabor, Tamas was the big difference between the two inexperienced sides.
Put into bat, Comenius started poorly, losing both openers by the third over - Arindam Mukherjee top-edging and captain Andy Grieve being bowled superbly by Tamas. Viktor Voros and Saurav battled to 39 before Tamas took an important catch to oust Saurav off Viktor Agoston's bowling. Attila Vakan joined Viktor to go past 50, but was soon bowled by training partner Ferenc Zsigri. At drinks Comenius were 65 for 4 and seemingly heading towards a good score of 100+, but that soon became 65 for 5 then 65 for 6 as Viktor was followed off the pitch by David Berczeli. Worse was to come, as Zoltan Mago also got a duck, leaving Kristof Noll-Batek alone with first Brigi Hotea and then Fanni Cziraky, but the schoolgirls both quacked as well to bring a swift end to an innings that had started to look promising, with Tamas bagging four wickets. Perhaps the presence of 11 players would have helped, Zoltan Pajor's illness preventing him from adding a few runs to the scoreline.
Everybody knew that two wickets were key in the Kangaroos reply and so it proved, with Tamas coming in at 11-2 and then hitting four sixes in his unbeaten 26. Viktor Agoston played a nice cameo for 9, but it was brother Gabor who came in to settle any nerves at 55-5 and finish off the job. The bowlers knew that one or two good balls would change the match, but instead of bowling on the stumps they bowled wide after wide to gift the match to the Kangaroos. Nevertheless, nothing should be taken away from the enthusiastic visitors, whose Aussie-raised brethren earned them another priceless two points.
As for Comenius, it's a good thing there is no relegation in the Hungarian Cricket League!
