Tiszakürt clean up in first ever inter-school matches in Hungary

On 24th April there were two cricket matches in Tiszakürt, between the local school and two sides from Szanda CC. 23 boys and girls were eager to show off their new cricket skills, but few realised they were making history by playing the very first inter-school cricket match in Hungary.

Under the watchful eye of umpire Ferenc Zsigri, we saw some talented kids, good bowling, batting, fielding and running, but above all enthusiasm. Despite the flashes of brilliant cricketing, the coaches (Robin Sperling and Jerry Bloemsma) saw plenty of work to do.

Because of the inexperience of the players, “extras” were the clear winners, followed by Tiszakürt (winning both matches), leaving Szanda CC travelling home complaining about everything (the state of the pitch, the umpire's decisions, the other team, the weather, … So, nothing new!) But, the real winner was youth cricket. Everybody enjoyed the matches and the players are now working harder than ever before to improve their skills.

To help all the kids move on to the next level, both teams received some new equipment, kindly donated by the HCA. Hopefully we can see the results at the next match.
