Phoenix won by 110 runs
Phoenix untroubled by Kangaroos
A week after their abandoned game, the two teams took to the field with
Phoenix hoping to repeat their explosive start to that match - Syed Ibrahim
had hit a rapid century by the time the rains came. This time around he only
managed a mere 45 stylish runs before popping an easy catch to point and it
was Dinesh Reddy who had the chance to get the glory. An incredibly assured
piece of batting saw Dinesh hit 6 sixes and 11 fours, but he fell one
maximum short of a well-deserved century when he holed out on the legside
boundary for 94.
Preminder, Ranjit and Robin showed some of their own skills with the bat to
help the Phoenix score along to a massive 230, thanks in part to the lack of
strength in depth of the Kangaroos bowling and a few misfields. The
highlight in the field was a high two-handed diving catch by the portly
Ferenc Zsigri standing at second slip to dismiss Preminder, a true moment of
athletic brilliance.
In reply, the Kangaroos actually kept up with the scoring rate of Phoenix
for the first 12 overs, but then the wheels fell off. Ujjal departed with
the score on 66 after smashing six boundaries in his 36 - plumb lbw trying
to slog sweep Benjamin Lebor onto the tennis courts - and captain Gabor
Torok couldn't keep the run-rate up. His brother Tamas came in to smash 23
off 12 balls and take his side over the halfway line, thus denying Phoenix a
bonus point, but it was small consolation.
All six of the Phoenix bowlers got in the wickets, with Syed returning 3-12
off 6, but it was captain Lebor who grabbed the scalps of all three
double-figure Kangaroos. Three stumpings by Preminder brought the match to a
close, bringing smiles all round in the glorious sunshine that had given
Phoenix the chance to claim the victory denied by the previous weekend's
downfall.
