Budapest Falcons vs Phoenix
Sunday 22nd May 2011
Budapest Falcons won by 41 runs
A hot day for a game of cricket, all players trying to hydrate themselves with plenty of water throughout the day. The Budapest Falcons began with a shaky start, with runs being at one stage at 4/68, but thanks to an excellent partnership between Adnan and Ahmed, they raised their score to a higher level. BF achieved a score of 7/239 [thanks to heroic scoring by Adnan of 90]. Abby from Phoenix could not help much to stop the score despite his 4/38 bowling figures.
Phoenix batting had a terrible start losing all the top 4 batsmen for a mere 42 runs. However, Ranjeet and Robin resurrected the innings with a good partnership to take the score beyond 100. After Ranjeet's wicket, it never looked easy for Phoenix to get the target, but the fight for the chase went well till the end with Robin making 87 not out.
After the game, the Phoenix team gathered for a quick beer at the University cafeteria.

Dunabogdany CC vs Phoenix
Saturday 28th May 2011
Phoenix won by 167 runs
The weather played hide and seek during the day with some showers. The day was generally cold while we could feel the sun often. It was not an ideal start for Phoenix as it was experimenting with new openers and both the openers failed to deliver to some slow bowling from DCC [a strategy from DCC to retain their best bowlers for the best batsmen from Phoenix] and it worked well for them. Phoenix managed to reach 188 with the help of key contributions from Abby (37), Ranjeet (27), Robin (23) and Michael (19 n.o). At this point it looked as if DCC were on top of the game thanks to a great bowling performance, especially from Kushal who took 4/42
The Phoenix players were fully charged up to attack and their key bowlers Abby and Dinesh blitzed the opposition with 6/13 and 4/7 respectively and DCC collapsed for a mere 21 runs on the scoreboard. With this win, Phoenix gained a bonus point and placed itself at number 3 position in the league table. |
